How do you set up TP-Link Omada for Easy Smart WiFi?

TP-Link Omada Controller configuration for Easy Smart WiFi starts with a RADIUS profile named Smart WiFi that has two authentication servers on port 1812 and two accounting servers on port 1813. You then create an external portal named Smart WiFi with External RADIUS Server, RADIUS Profile SmartWiFi, PAP authentication, and External Web Portal customization. Pre-authentication access must include smartwifiplatform.com plus the platform default walled garden entries support provides. Do not use apostrophes in the guest SSID — that can break RADIUS authentication.

What you set

A Smart WiFi RADIUS profile with accounting enabled, a Smart WiFi portal with External RADIUS Server and PAP, External Web Portal, HTTPS Redirection Disabled, and pre-authentication access enabled.

What support provides

RADIUS authentication and accounting IPs, RADIUS passwords, NAS ID, the external portal URL, and the Promotional URL value for the landing page.

http vs https

Use http:// on a self-hosted controller without a trusted certificate. Use https:// with Omada Cloud or a self-hosted controller that has an uploaded trusted certificate.

Before you start

Omada has to be live first.

  • The Omada controller is already operational, with access points adopted.
  • Firewall rules, content filters, and other security measures allow the Smart WiFi Platform.
  • You have RADIUS IPs, passwords, NAS ID, portal URL, and landing page values from Easy Smart WiFi support. If you do not, call (954) 696-0882 before changing the dashboard.
  • The guest SSID name does not contain apostrophes.
Portal URL protocol

http or https on the external portal.

Use http://

Self-hosted Omada controller without a trusted certificate uploaded to the controller.

Use https://

Omada Cloud subscription or self-hosted controller with an uploaded trusted certificate.

Keep HTTPS Redirection Disabled. For Landing Page – The Promotional URL, use http:// and the value Easy Smart WiFi support provides.

TP-Link Omada configuration FAQ

What do I need before configuring TP-Link Omada for Easy Smart WiFi?

The Omada controller must already be operational with adopted access points. Firewall rules, content filters, and other security measures must allow the Smart WiFi Platform. Easy Smart WiFi support provides RADIUS IPs, passwords, NAS ID, portal URL, and landing page values. Do not guess those values.

Can I use apostrophes in the guest SSID on Omada?

No. Do not use apostrophes in the SSID for the guest network. Apostrophes in the SSID can cause RADIUS authentication issues.

How many RADIUS servers go in the Smart WiFi profile?

The Smart WiFi RADIUS profile needs two authentication servers and two accounting servers. Add New Authentication Server and Add New Accounting Server once each so the profile has two auth and two accounting entries. Authentication uses port 1812. Accounting uses port 1813.

Should the Omada external portal use http or https?

Use http if you run a self-hosted Omada controller without a trusted certificate. Use https if you have an Omada Cloud subscription or a self-hosted controller with an uploaded trusted certificate. HTTPS Redirection stays Disabled. The Promotional URL on the landing page uses http and the value support provides.

What authentication mode does the Omada portal use?

Set Authentication Type to External RADIUS Server, RADIUS Profile to SmartWiFi, and Authentication Mode to PAP. Portal Customization is External Web Portal.

Which hosts go in Omada pre-authentication access?

Enable Pre-Authentication Access on the portal Access Control tab. Add smartwifiplatform.com as a URL entry. Then add each platform default walled garden entry from Easy Smart WiFi support. Do not invent extra hosts.

What values does Easy Smart WiFi support provide for Omada?

Support provides RADIUS authentication and accounting IPs, RADIUS passwords, NAS ID, the external portal URL, and the Promotional URL value for the landing page. Accounting server 1 IP is labeled Select one in the dashboard until support assigns it.

Do I need to replace my TP-Link access points?
