How do you set up Ruckus Cloud for Easy Smart WiFi?

Ruckus Cloud configuration for Easy Smart WiFi is a captive-portal setup on an already-running Ruckus Cloud network with adopted access points. You create a Captive Portal SSID, choose 3rd Party Captive Portal (WISPr), enter the portal URL and redirect host support provides, then add RADIUS authentication on port 1812 and accounting on port 1813 using the shared secret RuckusCloud. MAC auth bypass stays Disabled. Encryption for user MAC and IP stays Enabled. After venue activation, set the session to 10 Days and the reconnect window to 14300.

What you set

A Captive Portal wireless network, 3rd Party Captive Portal (WISPr), Other provider, MAC auth bypass Disabled, MAC/IP encryption Enabled, and Accounting Service ON.

What support provides

The Captive Portal URL, the Redirect Users to host, and the primary and secondary RADIUS IPs. Those values are not published on this page.

What you send back

The Integration Key, reported to support together with your Ruckus Cloud AP MAC addresses.

Before you start

Ruckus Cloud has to be live first.

  • Ruckus Cloud is already operational, with access points adopted.
  • Firewall rules, content filters, and other security measures allow the Smart WiFi Platform.
  • You have the Captive Portal URL, Redirect Users to value, and RADIUS IPs from Easy Smart WiFi support. If you do not, call (954) 696-0882 before changing the dashboard.
  • You can copy the Integration Key and your Ruckus Cloud AP MAC addresses to send back to support.
Dashboard steps

  1. Log in to Ruckus Cloud

    Log in to the Ruckus Cloud dashboard.

  2. Open Wireless Networks

    In the navigation panel on the left, open Wireless Networks.

  3. Add Network

    Click Add Network and set:

    Network Name
    Name the network. Ruckus uses this as the SSID by default.
    Type
    Captive Portal
  4. 3rd Party Captive Portal (WISPr)

    Click Next, then choose 3rd Party Captive Portal (WISPr).

  5. Portal provider settings

    Click Next and enter:

    Must be reported to support with your Ruckus Cloud AP MACs

    Whitelist Entries: use the platform default list from Easy Smart WiFi support. This page only documents the example host above. Do not add extra hosts from guesswork.

  6. Authentication Service

    Add a Secondary Server, then set:

    Primary IP

  7. Accounting Service

    Turn Accounting Service ON. Add a Secondary Server, then set:

    Primary IP
    You will be provided this
    Secondary IP
    You will be provided this
    Port
    1813
    Shared Secret
    RuckusCloud
  8. Activate at the venue

    Click Next and activate the wireless network at the desired Venue.

  9. Review and create

    Click Next, review the Summary, then click Create.

  10. Open the new network

    Back on Wireless Networks, click the network name.

  11. Edit Network → Advanced

    Allow the user to stay connected for
    10 Days
    Do not redirect to the portal when reconnecting within
    14300

    Click Save.

  12. Configuration complete

    Configuration complete. Report the Integration Key and Ruckus Cloud AP MACs to support if you have not already. Start a trial at the free trial page if the venue is not on Easy Smart WiFi yet.

What do I need before configuring Ruckus Cloud for Easy Smart WiFi?

Ruckus Cloud must already be operational with adopted access points. Firewall rules, content filters, and other security measures must allow the Smart WiFi Platform. Easy Smart WiFi support provides the Captive Portal URL, Redirect Users to host, and RADIUS primary and secondary IPs. Do not guess those values.

What network type should I create in Ruckus Cloud?

Add a Wireless Network with Type set to Captive Portal. The Network Name is used as the SSID by default. On the next screen, choose 3rd Party Captive Portal (WISPr).

What is the RADIUS shared secret for Ruckus Cloud?

The shared secret for both Authentication Service and Accounting Service is RuckusCloud. Authentication uses port 1812. Accounting uses port 1813. Primary and secondary server IPs are provided by support.

Should I enable MAC auth bypass on the Ruckus Cloud captive portal?

No. Enable MAC auth bypass must be Disabled. Enable encryption for user's MAC and IP addresses must be Enabled.

Which hosts go in the Ruckus Cloud walled garden?

The Walled Garden is the whitelist for intended sign-on products. An example entry is *.smartwifiplatform.com. For the full Whitelist Entries set, use the platform default list from Easy Smart WiFi support. Extra hosts should not be added from guesswork.

What session timeout and reconnect values should I set?

In Edit Network → Advanced, set Allow the user to stay connected for to 10 Days. Set Do not redirect to the portal when reconnecting within to 14300. Then Save.

What should I send to support after I create the network?

Report the Integration Key to support together with your Ruckus Cloud AP MAC addresses. Support also provides the Captive Portal URL, Redirect Users to value, and RADIUS IPs used in this guide.
